Aunt Lou here.

Gramma has been gone now for almost a year and a half. Cris and I grew up next door to her. We never went to a baby sitter. We always went to Gramma’s. We could literally run to her house from ours growing up. The days upon days of sitting on her front porch, going on walks with her, playing checkers with her and just talking with her are some of my most treasured childhood memories. As an adult, she was there by my side and one of my closest friends through some of my hardest days. And I was there with her through her health problems. It is still extremely hard when I forget that I can’t just call her up or go visit her, but when I have pieces of her show up in my day to day life, it makes me smile. This Crock Pot Apple Spice Dump Cake recipe was Gramma’s and does just that for me. (A huge thank you to Momma for sharing it with me!)

Crock Pot Apple Spice Dump Cake Notes:

  • This is a great starter recipe for anyone who is looking to try making a cake for the first time in their crock pot. Dumps cakes are wonderfully simple and absolutely delicious!
  • For this Crock Pot Apple Spice Dump Cake, I used myHamilton Beach Multi-Quart Slow Cooker. It has become one of my absolute favorite slow cookers to use, so I think I shall name him Corky in honor of Michael’s Grandpa James (aka Corky) who loved to cook and could make just about anything…exactly like this slow cooker that can cook at 2 qt, 4 qt or 6 qt! Following me? Welcome to the quirkiness of my mind folks! 😉

Great minds think alike! I just made a version this weekend that uses caramel baking bits. Keep watch, I should have the full recipe up later this week. It was amazing!

Would this still work if I doubled in for a crowd? I’m wondering if the texture will be off, I’m making it for a big potluck!

      Hi Jan!

I would make two separate ones. I’m afraid the center wouldn’t get done before the edges would burn if you doubled the recipe in a single crock pot. Good luck!

I fixed this last week end. It was so good. Be sure and use the paper towels. I still had a little of the cake mix showing so I just pushed it down in the juices. I will fix this again real soon.

I think it is important to layer paper towels on the top of the crock pot before putting on the lid. They will absorb the extra moisture not needed or wanted in the dessert.

      Hi Rebecca!

It would be perfect for a rainy weekend! I would recommend using a 5-6 quart slow cooker if you have one. I have had some trouble making certain cakes in Cassie (my casserole crock) pot. Since I haven’t tried this one in my Cassie yet, I can’t say for sure if it would do well or not. If you do try it, let me know how it goes! Enjoy!

I can smell this cake cooking and I haven’t even started baking it as yet, but it won’t be long before I do. What could be better than apple pie filling and spice cake??? Nope, can’t think of anything. That is unless there is vanilla ice cream to go with it. Doing my happy dance now just thinking about it.

      Hi Cheryl!

I haven’t tried it, but you would need to make your fresh apples into an apple pie filling and use approximately 5 cups of the fresh apple pie filling. Let me know how it goes! Enjoy!

      Hi Donita!

Any 5-6 quart slow cooker should work. You won’t want to go much smaller because the cake would have a hard time getting done in the middle. Enjoy!

Hi, you mention the mulit-quart cooker, but can you let me know what size you recommend we use for this recipe? I would imagine that the cooking time is based on size of crock pot? This looks delicious!

      Hi Paula!

I used my multi-quart on the 6-quart setting. If you go any smaller than a 5-6 quart, the cake might not get done in the middle. Enjoy!
