I am writing about a dog I fostered for a few weeks late last year, whose owner is now needing to re-home him. His owner and I both love him very much, but neither of us is able to keep him at this point due to our residential/other circ*mstances. For me the problem is that this dog is too strong for me to confidently be able to keep under control when he gets distracted outside and wants to run. I am a female over 70, but most men and generally strong women could keep him under control outside. (Inside the house, he is always a perfect house guest!) However, the ideal situation would be for him to live with someone who either has a fenced yard or who could run or otherwise actively engage with him on a fairly regular basis, as even though he is nine years old, he looks and has the energy level of more like a three or four year old dog. He is absolutely beautiful, and is just as sweet and loving as he can possibly be! He is very friendly with other people, he absolutely loves cats, and he loves the other pets he lives with, but he may need to be introduced to other dogs. He is now in socialization training to help assure peaceful interactions with unfamiliar dogs. But notably, he has never attacked another animal. He is NOT a 'yappy' or 'barky' dog at all, but he IS very alert to noises outside his home, and when he barks in response, I'm sure almost anyone with any bad intentions would just decide to 'move on' somewhere else! He has a very deep and loud bark when he does bark, and so any outsider would certainly reckon he would be a real force to be contended with! NOW here comes 'the rub' for most people, he is a pitbull mix, about 52 pounds, pretty much solid muscle. Black and white, with a black ring around one of his eyes. He was evaluated by professional dog trainers for about 3-4 hours about a week or so ago for an evaluation as to whether or not he is 'aggressive' -- and he passed with flying colors! The trainers said he was an absolute sweetheart. I knew that already, I just didn't know what they would say when it came to other dogs, as I was always too scared to let him get near one while he was in my care for a month. Like I said, I don't have good control over him once he gets excited by something, and so I didn't want to risk any possible negative interactions with other dogs, and so I never let him get near another dog while he was temporarily in my care. The other thing the professional dog trainers said about him is that he is a 'natural guard dog.' And I had sensed that about him even during the short time I had him in my care. I can tell he would be very loyal and protective over any person OR animal he views as part of 'his family.' And this information leads me into the 'other rub' for this sweetheart of a dog: He was adopted by a woman in N.C. late last year, who apparently didn't learn any lesson from the first time a stranger was told he could just enter into her house without anyone coming to the door to greet him (a FedEx man told by the woman's boyfriend that he could just 'come on back' , and who was then bitten by this dog when he entered the home unescorted and uninvited (at least as far as the dog could tell). Then, apparently not having learned anything from THAT mistake, the woman apparently continued to leave the doors to her house unlocked AND didn't warn people not to enter her home unexpectedly, and so a female friend of hers entered her house, once again unescorted and ungreeted, a few months later, and so the dog bit that woman too. As a result, the dog was taken to Animal Control, and then barely escaped being euthanized. So, anyway, the dog trainers have now professionally determined what I knew in my heatt to be the truth about these incidences all along: this dog was simply protecting the lady's home!! But, nevertheless, now, as a result, he is not only a pitbull mix, but he has 'two bites' on his record!! -- yet only because of that woman's carelessness, and his natural guard-dog instincts. When this dog is OUTSIDE wherever he is staying, he never acts aggressively towards people, ALL he wants is to be loved, loved, loved. Anyway, the reality now is that the lady who rescued him from euthanasia cannot keep him where she lives, and I have already said why I cannot reasonably keep him. And that's, besides the fact that I live in a townhouse with an un-fenced postage-stamp for a backyard. SO IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW COULD USE A VERY GOOD GUARD DOG, AND A REALLY SWEET ONE AT THAT, PLEASE, PLEASE CONTACT ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!! IF we are not able to locate some good person with a suitable home to adopt him within three weeks, he might well be euthanized, and that would be just a horrible shame considering what a GREAT and loving dog he actually is. The one other thing I would add here is that I am willing to sell my home in NoVa and move to a larger, fenced property so that I can adopt him myself, but realistically that would take me anywhere from six months to a year to accomplish -- and poor 'Tank' just doesn't have that long if no one is willing to care for him in the meantime. SO, if anyone sees this ad and feels like they could take care of Tank for the short term, but just doesn't want to commit indefinitely to a nine year old dog, I would gladly pay for the cost of Tank's food (and all pre-approved medical expenses) until I am able to move and take him in myself. PLEASE PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO HELP ME SAVE TANK'S LIFE, HE IS SUCH AN ABSOLUTE SWEETHEART OF A DOG, AND HE DESERVES TO BE SAVED!!

[I am unfortunately too low tech to be able to post/send pics and/or videos of Tank. However, Tank's owner has posted some really cute videos of Tank online (including a video of his reactions to a cat annoying/playing with him, as well as one of him singing along to her 'playing' a harmonica), as well as more information about all of the many trials and difficulties poor sweet Tank has had to endure during his lifetime. However, it seems that my referencing her contact information keeps getting my CL posts about Tank flagged and deleted. So if you will respond to this post, I will send you precise information as to how you can locate her social media posts about Tank. I do hope that you will contact me so that you will then be able to see for yourself how absolutely adorable Tank is!]

Notably, I will likely be bringing Tank back up to NoVa with me in about a week, and so at that point he would be in this area and could be made available to actually meet people 'in person.'

Thank you so much for considering adopting sweet Tank, he really does deserve the best! I'm so sorry this is all so convoluted, but I am just a VERY 'low tech' aging former foster who loves Tank, not his owner.
